A Brief History of Winteringham FC
The club was originally formed in the season of 1978/79 entering the Sunday League in Division 6.
The original team was made up predominantly of
players from Winteringham Intermediates who had been running for a number of years under the guidance of local enthusiasts Dennis Jewson, Fred Naylor and Arthur Ogg.
Winteringham have seen many other teams
come and go in previous years and it is a credit to all concerned (past and present) that a small village should be able to support a Sunday League team for over two decades.
Many a Sunday league player will recall the
happy memories of getting in a railway carriage before playing a match under the watchful gaze of the local herd of cows.
The current team is managed by Tony Simons, who has served the club in this capacity for
20 years, graduating from player to player/manager to manager. He was a member of the team that brought the only previous trophy to the Club when clinching the Division 5 Championship in the 1981/82 season.
The current Reserve Team Manager is Edwin Patterson, whose managerial background starts from school boy football. Eddie gained much experience running local youth teams and has naturally progressed to a more challenging
task. As current form reflects, it appears he is doing a sterling job not only by getting results on the pitch but also raising much-needed funds for the club.
The Club is extremely grateful to all sponsors past
and present, without whom the Club wouldn't be here today. As you can appreciate, the Club has ongoing expenditures to facilitate its existence (pitch hire, changing rooms, insurance etc).
Our current sponsors are as follows:
B Dowie Roofing Cottage Beck Car Sales BJW Crane Hire Richtoy Motor Sports Paul Fox Estate Agents
We are always looking for new sponsorship to help develop the club, as we aspire to greater success.
