The Burgage Band

The Burgage Band
Left to right: Simon, Barry, Kay, Geoff, Laurie, Mike, Harry & Elliot.

Practicing quietly, well actually, not that quietly, over the last few months, a group of villagers are preparing themselves for their first public performance at the Christmas Social evening, where they will sing English Traditional songs and carols and carols from abroad.

Mike started the group with Barry on mandolin and Elliot on bass.  Mike then asked Harry to help with singing and it kind of ‘snowballed’ into the eight strong acoustic group pictured here. Mike and Simon play guitar and sing, Elliot is on bass, Barry mandolin, Geoff is on banjo and sings, Kay sings and bashes the bodhran a bit (still learning) and last but not least, Harry and Laurie sing. We all bring varying amounts of performing experience – some have none whilst others have been semi professional. We also have performed or have interest in different types of music so the programme being rehearsed is varied and should be interesting.

Why ‘The Burgage Band’?  Well several of the group live on the Burgages and at the moment we rehearse on Low Burgage, so why not?

In the future the band is hoping to perform in pubs and clubs and perhaps set up an acoustic music evening every month or so at the Bay Horse but that is some way off yet. At the moment they are content to just get all their words learnt for Christmas. Watch this space or better still come and cheer us on at the village hall on December 3rd.  You never know we might surprise and amaze you!
