A Winteringham connection with France

Bernard de Neuf Marche came across to England with William the Conqueror, and after the conquest of was granted lands in various parts of the country.  In later times, his descendants also became Lords of the Manor at Winteringham, owning Winteringham Hall (the ruins of which are in the Hall Closes, close by the old National School.  By the time Winteringham was in their hands, the family name had become Anglicised from Neuf Marche to Newmarch.

Below we reproduce some of the scenes from the village, which is situated to the east of Rouen.
